Sheffield Northern General
I have completed a series of commissions for the intensive treatment service ward in the northern general hospital Sheffield. I liaised with service users and staff and created artwork which was low maintenance, protected from self harm and was sensitive to the working environment. The aim of the project was to enhance the healing environment. I was interested in using colour theory in the artwork and creating different atmospheres for different areas of the ward according to what they are used for. I used the feed back from the service users as a starting point to the project. They highlighted that it was important to reflect cultural diversity within the ward which other artwork had failed to do, describing it as “typically British”. I created a number of colourful collages that incorporated African fabric. Wall panels were designed for the corridor of the ward to add colour and interest to an otherwise dull and stark area, they make the ward seem more homely and less like a hospital.
